Farmington Public Schools

Farmington Public Schools in Arkansas has experienced significant growth and development in recent years. According to a 2023 report from the Arkansas Department of Education, the district saw a 5% increase in student enrollment, adding approximately 150 students from October 2022 to October 2023. Superintendent Jon Laffoon attributes this growth to city improvements and the dedication of school staff. To accommodate the rising student population, the district has expanded both elementary schools and constructed a new building at the junior high. Plans are underway to build a new junior high school within the next four years.

In response to safety concerns, Farmington Public Schools has implemented several measures to ensure a secure learning environment. In 2024, the district announced the installation of weapons detection systems at Farmington High School, Farmington Junior High, and Cardinal Academy, along with the presence of armed officers on all campuses. These initiatives, costing approximately $80,000, aim to proactively protect students and staff. Additionally, the district received a $55,000 state grant in September 2024 to participate in a phone-free school pilot program, focusing on improving students' mental health by restricting cellphone use during the school day.
